The Lymphatic SystemFunctions of the Lymphatic System Lymph drainage massage is the most powerful means of cleansing the lymphatic system and bloodstream and is a vital system of the body and is directly responsible in stimulating the immune function to keep it efficient. If it is then combined with Oxygen, which further increases circulation and detoxes the capillaries, the results are unprecedented. Not only that but the Oxygen also delivers lashing of water, which will further help to flush out toxins. During the last 50 years over 100,000 new chemicals have been introduced and is still increasing. This treatment is a good preventative measure to keep healthy. Toxins ~ Waste ~ Excess Fluid ~ Necrotic Cells ~ Infections The above are cleared from all the tissues of the body otherwise the fluid would become thick and toxic. That would lead to the parts of the body that deal with elimination becoming less efficient and sluggish which becomes a breeding ground for infection. When the lymph system is not efficient the cells become dry, fluids viruses, bacteria and parasites can stay trapped within the lymphatic system which can lead to further ailments and may hasten the ageing process. One sign of detox overload is when it takes until lunch time before the person feels as though they are awake. Some conditions that may be aggravated by lymphatic congestion:
What is the lymphatic system? The lymphatic system is made up of lymph vessels consisting of; lymph, lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, cisterna chyli, thoracic duct and lymph organs (tonsils, spleen, appendix, adenoids, bone marrow, peyers patches in small intestine). The lymphatic system transports digested fat from the intestine to the bloodstream, removes and destroys toxins and carries nutrients from the blood stream to our cells and carries waste to the lymph nodes for elimination. It also resists the spread of disease throughout the body. It produces lymphocytes and antibodies and filters lymph to remove infective matter. The LS removes particles of bacteria etc which are too large to get through the capillary in the blood stream and the LS takes excess fluid from the tissues back to the blood. It produces lymphocyte and anti-bodies. Lymph contains waste materials and takes it to the lymph nodes or glands where it is purified by the lymphocytes by fighting the foreign bodies and prevents them from returning to the blood stream. The Lymphatic vessels that carry the lymph begin as blind end capillaries in tissue spaces between cells and end in the thoracic duct and right lymphatic duct, where they empty their contents into the large subclavian veins approaching the heart. |

Right Lymphatic duct Drains the right arm and right side of head, neck and chest. It opens into the venous systems where the R internal jugular and R subclavian veins meet. Thoracic Duct The thoracic duct starts as the cisterna chyli opposite the 2nd lumbar vertebra. It runs up the abdomen and chest to empty into the veins where the L internal jugular joins the l subclavian. The thoracic duct carries lymph from the legs, pelvis, abdomen, left arm and left side of the head, neck and chest. Lymph flow can be rather slow because there is no equivalent of the ‘cardiac pump’ to stimulate flow. The lymph flow is mainly affected by gravity and the primary force and action within the lymphatic system is dependant on muscular activity, (muscular contractions) and respiratory movements. Diaphragmatic breathing is the best way to move lymph as it creates a vacuum that sucks lymph through the blood stream and multiplies the pace at which the body eliminates toxins. Toxic material carried in the
lymphatics is neutralized and filtered out by the
lymph nodes which range in size from a pinhead to
almond on their way to the veins and heart. These
nodes are located in the neck, groin, arm, thorax
and abdomen. Lymph nodes also make fresh lymphocytes
for circulation. Swollen nodes indicate a
disfunction of the system, either waste not draining
or in lymphocyte production and they should be
referred to a medical practitioner
The nodes have special cells which ingest foreign bodies and release them into the blood in a smaller form. Lymph flow is reduced by:
Deep breathing and exercise and speed up lymph flow by as much as 15 times. The faster the lymph flows the more active the body’s metabolism becomes. If the lymph can be stimulated significant benefits will result particularly in people who have a sedentary lifestyle or are overweight. Lymph Drainage massage Lymph Drainage massage can be very beneficial when combined with a weight loss program. The lymph flow is rather slow, because there is no pump like our heart. It has to rely on muscular movements. Most people’s lymph could be improved, but especially people who have sedentary lives or who are overweight. Note that we believe the only way to loose weight is by eating sensibly and exercising more but often after the first few weeks have passed people become disheartened because their weight loss slows down especially if they find it hard to find the time to exercise. What Are The Benefits?
There is not a single person who would not benefit a treatment including lymph drainage massage Call 0800 056 2428 for details of your nearest salon How to test if you have a blockage in the upper lymphatic area of the body To test if there is some congestion in your lymph you can conduct a quick and simple test: Apply continual and firm pressure to the entire jaw-line by pressing together the index finger and thumb along the jaw, moving out from the centre of the chin to the ears. Keeping the fingers on the skin move them down the neck in a direct straight line down from the ear lobes to the shoulders. If there is some pain or tenderness this indicates that there is some congestion. Applying pressure in a drainage movement like this regularly will help to coax unwanted matter from the jaw along to the Lymph nodes under the ears. From this area the lymph then flows on its way down and around the body. Generally and in our experience, people who have acne or problematic skins will suffer a congested lymph and blockages in the upper body region. We feel blockages in the under arms and along the upper arms. To help blast away blockages and so allow the bacteria to wash freely away from the face and clear into the lymph, and as well as MLD massage, we recommend an application of our Oxygen body 3% applied daily to the upper arms, under arms and abdominal region. If when first using our products you breakout along the jaw and neck we would recommend the following to enable your skin to detox slowly:
Whilst doing the above you can still use Mild Scrub and Oxygen Body 3% daily, as per application guidelines. |
